What's with guilds spazzing about swearing?
So recently I had tooken upon a guild jumping hobby of finding bad guilds that advirtise that they are good, but once you join, they have crappy members or rules. Today's story?
I had found what seemed to be a decent PvE guild. Got along GREAT with the members and a lot of the vent people. And then this happened after I had FINALLY gotten my tormented shield...

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/144/gwlulz2.png
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3860/gwlulz3.png
Ever watch "To catch a predator"?
I'm Kain FZ from GWG's "To catch a bad guild" and we're doing a report on bad guilds that try to recruit people for "members"
All jokes and references aside, my research and acting has brought me to one of the BIGGEST questions of all:
Why the hell do people spazz so much about swearing? Excuse me while I enter rant mode:
I mean, all the excuses are really dumb and retarded. I mean, if someone has children, shouldn't you enable the filter AND teach them right from wrong? This is the oldest excuse in the book. The result of not doing shit is the result is being a BAD PARENT. Be it a huge pussy who shields their child from life, or someone who doesn't teach or discipline them. It's just bad parenting. And if you're so against it, why play a game that has swearing in official dialogue?
And to those that just plain hate swearing, why the hell play Guild Wars? Of all games, an MMO that warns about swearing on its label!
AND it has a T rating, in which, you should KNOW words like "bitch" are thrown around. Haven't you ever played Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete? Even one of the most touching love stories in video games uses swearing. And did you know even E rated games have swearing? At the start of Grandia, in one of the FIRST dialogue pieces of the game, you read the word "Bastards" CLEARLY!
If you're just plain a pussy despite it being accepted by society, GW has a CENSORE option be DEFAULT!
There ya' go. All hell won't break loose with the censore filter.
But furthermore, if someone hates swearing soooo much, why are they even alive?
I go outside, I see people calling each other "niggaz" as a common slang, and I hear a variety of other swear words when friends are just casually having fun each other. It's real life and part of our modern-day society. There's no fricken reason to dramatize or complain.
Discuss, yes. But we're talking a whole other level.
/endrant
*sigh*
Will there ever be a high-end elite PvE guild out there that does not succumb to such level of retardation?
Seriously. They're everywhere. Even in the GWG recruitment forum.
I've been looking so hard for so long for a good guild that it led to this hobby. It's just sad. Sometimes I wish someone with an actual decent guild would pm me and send me an invite, that is, without this kind of bullshit happening. No, really. Are there ANY guild recruiting that don't have this bullshit? I've delt with this situation WAAAAAAY too many times -___-
Names censored for the sake of saving from embarassment. I'll probably dig up another dumb guild situation another day.
But for now, because it was so recent, I'd like to focus on the aspect that is guilds spazzing over swearing.
Discuss on guilds and swearing.
Me, and my opinion? Personally, I think if a guild is so disappointing, probably the best thing to do is peacefully leave without harrassing them, since it's not for you anyways.
Though I must admit, a member pming you afterwards just to insult you, trying to increase their e-pen0r to make themselves look like some higher, correct being , is just plain hypocrisy and pathic. And that kind of behavior automatically qualifies something as a bad guild!
So much for a "top" guild <_<
But I have a tip for all of you..
Telling someone they smoke weed, when clearly, they don't, is very good for someone's e-pen. Try it sometime, guys. It'll make you look like a much, much, much, MUCH more smarter, intelligent, mature being than someone else, and it increases your guild™ reputation by over 375 precent!

I know what you mean, sometimes people give the human race a bad name, but after dealing with people like that, I just tend to shrug it off and ignore them. If its just that one guy who is freaking out, I wouldn't let it ruin the rest of the guild's members. Who knows, they might be worth sticking around for.
BUT I do think that if an alliance has a no swearing rule, then you should respectfully honor that rule. Not sure if that one did or not, just sayin'.
Edit: Ok everyone, lets not start trolling, alright? *glares*

That's the thing, Neo Nugget.
Some guilds, such as this, have GREAT members. It is the people in power, however, who bring it down though.
Then there's other guilds who have great officers, but dumbass members who label you as a scammer for doing what any other person would do, and bet low stakes for high rewards in a guild minigame :P

I can assure you, some low-end guilds will kick you for having the desire to laugh at a whammo trying to tank with endure pain and healing signet, over a permasin, for UWSC. Been there, done that

I've almost been in the same situation. Someone from our guild said damn & someone from one of the other guilds flipped OUT. After an hour long argument, the guild left. No biggie though, it got replaced by another 1mill+ kurzick guild.
Rules like that are why I avoid big faction/pve guilds. Someone has to flip out about the smallest thing and make it into a big deal.

Meh... This is always a touchy subject with most guilds and I too see the same exact pattern. Here's the rundown for it though, people freak out about censorship in most games because younger children could be playing the game or in this case the same alliance.
Alright fair enough, we should censor ourselves or try to be more careful about our language because we don't want the F word plastered all over chat.
But WAIT?! What is this?! A FILTER BAR?!
*Sighs*
I'm sorry, this is just a stupid matter and this so called argument is based off of sheer stupidity. If a parent buys some thirteen year old kid a game that has ANY kind of multi-player option, they should know better. I was cussed out at the age of 11 when Diablo II first came out when I stole a guy's gold off his corpse. Mom saw it and pulled the game for a few weeks before the whole entire thing dawned on her. Granted... That was almost 9 years ago...
Anywho, long-story short Kain, good read. I couldn't agree any more.

Not really the point when in-guild is more of a act, even if my excitement was true to finally of gotten such a high-prestige item.
And to be brutally honest, I'm just someone who likes to rant about things. GWG is srsbsnss, ain't it? You know that too!
If this exact same situation didn't happen so many times with so many guilds though, there'd be no need to rant. But that doesn't seem to really be the case.

I agree. If anything, you're the one overreacting about this, Kain. Some people just don't want people swearing, regardless of the fact that there is a filter. I don't see why they're making a big deal, but I don't see why you are either. Accept the fact that there are people like this and move on.

This is funny as are all the people continuously complaining about bad language and caps.
The guy got a tormented shield and was happy, used caps and a swear word to describe that happiness.
If you have a problem with bad words then why isnt your filter turned on? He wasnt exactly swearing or being abusive to anyone else so what is wrong with it?
People who get stuck up and arsey over the use of the F word as an expression of ones emotion need to go out in the real world and make more (non christian maybe) friends.
Just about every normal person uses the word at some point when trying to express their emotion. Nothing wrong with that, it is just a word being used in a non abusive way. Calling someone silly is more offensive then saying 'F*** I just got a tormented shield'.

Totally agreed i throw around a few words and the whole alliance shits themselves like i just started a race war or something. Some people overreact waaaaay to much which makes this game less enjoyable everyday, and you can never forget those epic swear wars in JQ/FA...makes you wonder what kind of person tells you off for saying ''bad words''
/signed to kick all the idiots, sensitive people off the internet and give them a Dr.Seuss book.

You're Horrible. The fact that you said **** in alliance chat at first was not that big of a deal. Then you told alliance chat/the officers that their guild rules are wrong and that you don't have to follow them.
You turned it into a bid deal by whining and bating them aggressively . . . once you got what you were after.
You have every right to be in a guild that allows what you described but if you're gonna argue like "that" and not discuss. . . you will be kicked from every guild you join.

Simple Solution: Find out what a particular guild's guidlines / rules are before joining.
The rule (no swearing) that earns the classfication "bad guild" from you may be a reason long-term members of a guild with consider it a "good guild."
But there really isn't any reason for freaking out because someone used profanity. Just deal with it and move on.

I fail to see how common debate and expression of opinion is bating or whining.
Really, on the internet it must differ from person to person.

Done that for awhile now. However, it's always the same "No excessive swearing"
And yet, look what happens. Too many guilds do that. And it is pretty much false advirtisement, in which, last I checked, is frown upon in society to false advirtise. =/

This tells more about you then any guild out there. Trolling Alliance Chat in All Caps is nothing really to be proud of and whats wrong with people telling you they don't like swearing? As said before you are the one that makes it bigger then it is ...
I suggest looking for a 'matures only' guild that is more relaxed about swearing, instead of acting up in an alliance/ guild that obviously doesn't fit your type of free-time-fun-activity.
Good Luck.

I was talking about the 4 empty slots in your bar, drama queen
Seriously now, I can understand it's irritating when you just wanne be yourself and let everybody know you finally got the shield. Gratz on that btw. Yet you didn't join that guild with honest intentions. You're there to evaluate them. So who's evaluating you?

In my opinion, if you get mad about swearing on alliance chat, and haven't turned on the language filter, you can partake in a meal containing a bowl of our finest penises.
Either turn on the filter, or deal with it. Don't get pissy because you 'play the game in front of children'.
There is a language filter.
